Path Putting Aids & A New Golf Trainer

I’m always a sucker for new products from the big guns, and this putting aid from Tailormade is no exception, thanks to the guys from intheholegolf.com for the video! Also, there’s a new golf trainer on the market – check it out!

The TaylorMade TR3 True Path putting trainer was designed after years of studying the putting strokes of Tour players, top PGA club professionals as well as top amateurs. The TaylorMade putting lab data of thousands of strokes was analyzed to determine common faults and the best techniques of some of the best players in the world. Face angle and putter path are both important in successful putting. The best putters have a path that is no more than 2 degrees outside or inside the line. The most common successful putting paths are 1) straight back/straight through and 2)an arc from inside to square to inside Most scratch and Tour players have an arced path identical to the arced path provided in the TR3 True Path. Green Reading Tips for Golf Putting

Golf PuttingIf there is an area of Golf Putting that many golfers struggle with, it is in reading the green. When reading the green there are basically two factors that must be determined; speed and break. The greens on a golf course will act differently when golf putting depending on several factors including the weather. Always visit the practice green to get a feel for the condition of the greens before beginning your round. When determining the break your ball is likely to take, you must get down to the level of the ball in order to see the true contours of the green.

Shoot for End-over-end Rotation When Golf Putting

Golf PuttingHave you ever hit what looked like a beautiful putt only to have the ball touch the rim of the cup and roll away in some direction? This is a common problem and is caused by a golf ball with an irregular spin. As you practice your Golf Putting you must work on hitting the golf ball squarely in order to produce an end-over-end ball rotation. The only way to do this is to stand with the eyes directly over the ball, and maintain proper form throughout the stroke. Golf putting is not hard, but it does demand precision.

Choosing the Right Equipment for Golf Putting

Golf PuttingChoosing a putter has to do with a lot more than selecting the one that you think would look cool in your golf bag. Golf putting equipment is made in a few different styles, but the two most common styles are center shafted and heel shafted putters. In order to select a putter that is best suited to you, you must first know your putting style.

Golfers that have a golf putting swing that follows a straight line benefit from center shafted putters. Those with a swing that follows a gentle arc achieve the most consistency with a heel shafted putter.

Watch Your Toes When Golf Putting

Golf PuttingIt might sound funny, but golf putting has a lot to do with your toes! Toe alignment has a direct impact golf putting. When setting up for a shot you must align the toes parallel to your target line.

It is very important to note that the toes must always be in alignment with the target line – not the cup! Depending on the green, your target line is not always going to be a straight line to the cup. If you want the ball to follow the targeted line that you have chosen, you must align your toes to it.

What is the Correct Golf Putting Posture?

Golf PuttingThe success of a golfer depends a lot on his or her posture. Posture is no less important when golf putting than it is during any other part of the game. Correct posture allows the body to move unimpeded through the needed range of motion. When Golf Putting it is important to keep the knees bent slightly to reduce strain on the back.

The feet should be placed shoulder with apart. Bend at the waist when grasping the putter to allow the arms to swing like pendulums. Center the body so that the eyes are directly over the ball.

Don’t Break the Leading Wrist When Golf Putting!

Golf PuttingOf all of the mistakes that can be made when golf putting, allowing the leading wrist to break after striking the golf ball is one of the most common. When the lead wrist breaks, or bends, the head of the putter will twist, and this will cause the ball to veer off course.

One way to fix this golf putting problem is with the cross-handed putter grip. In the cross-handed grip, the forward hand grips the shaft of the putter farther down than the other hand. This repositioning of the hands helps keep the lead wrist straight.
