Some Putting Q&A to Start Your Day!

Question by Money: “El Dorado” golf putter – anyone ever heard any solid info about them?
I was recently given what appears to be an old, heavy used “El Dorado” golf putter. I have never heard of this and was wondering if anyone knew any solid details about it. Looking to get a new putter anyway, just curious about this one. It does come with a Reg. # if anyone needs that in the future. Thanks in advance.

Is this it?

Probably not, but from what I gather, El Dorado is a boutique putter brand… one I’ve never heard of. I had to scour the ‘Net for information, and it was limited at that. There are PLENTY of these types, though: MannKrafted and Gnead are a couple that come to mind. You might’ve heard of Scotty Cameron. It’s the easiest (“easiest” being a relative term) club type to try to get into the business with. Very few make it in a Scotty Cameron sense; most don’t, or do just enough to break even.

If the head’s integrity is sound and you like it… game it. Get a new grip- one that feels good and is the right size. Reshaft it if you please, but unless it’s rusted and/or pitted, that isn’t a priority.

We’d love to hear a bit more about this putter, but remember, test it out on the course before buying, especially if it has a price tag to match the name!

Question by Mr Paul: WILL THE AIRLINES LET ME CARRY ON A GOLF PUTTER?
Leaving for California tomorrow from Dallas want to bring a golf putter. Was wondering they will let me carry it on board?

Best answer:

Answer by Spartawo…
Paul, what with all the security scares and searching, if they take away a nail clipper why not a putter. I think they would think it was a weapon. Send it by FedEx express and it will get there waiting for you.
Spartawo…

Our Answer:

In our experience airlines make provisions for sports equipment, some charge, and others don’t. Call the airline or check their website to find out their Ts&Cs for golf equipment. It’s almost certain though, that you will have to check it into the hold. They’re not going to let you on the plane with it! You could always hire a putter at your destination if you’re wanting to practice your putting.

Golf Putting - Body Mechanics

Golf PuttingAs you gain more experience in the game of golf you will begin to realize how important good body mechanics is. Proper mechanics is required for every stroke you take, and that includes when you are Golf Putting. There are several tips that will help you develop your golf putting form and we will cover a few of them here.
The number one thing to remember when settling into your putt is to situate your body so that your eyes are directly over the golf ball. If you are not looking straight down at the golf ball your aim will be skew. Standing in this manner also helps you strike the ball in the correct way that will result in an “end over end” rotation. Incorrectly hit golf balls will have side spin that can make them roll off course.

Green Reading Tips for Golf Putting

Golf PuttingIf there is an area of Golf Putting that many golfers struggle with, it is in reading the green. When reading the green there are basically two factors that must be determined; speed and break. The greens on a golf course will act differently when golf putting depending on several factors including the weather. Always visit the practice green to get a feel for the condition of the greens before beginning your round. When determining the break your ball is likely to take, you must get down to the level of the ball in order to see the true contours of the green.

Shoot for End-over-end Rotation When Golf Putting

Golf PuttingHave you ever hit what looked like a beautiful putt only to have the ball touch the rim of the cup and roll away in some direction? This is a common problem and is caused by a golf ball with an irregular spin. As you practice your Golf Putting you must work on hitting the golf ball squarely in order to produce an end-over-end ball rotation. The only way to do this is to stand with the eyes directly over the ball, and maintain proper form throughout the stroke. Golf putting is not hard, but it does demand precision.

Where Do I Aim When Golf Putting Across a Hill?

Golf PuttingGolf Putting on a hill is challenging even for seasoned pros. Uphill putts are pretty straight forward; all you have to do is put some “heat” on the ball and you will sink it. Downhill putts are a bit more difficult; holding back on the power is key here. However, a lateral putt across a hill is the trickiest putt that a golfer will ever have to deal with. The best advice when golf putting in this situation is to aim for above the cup. This allows gravity to be your ally as the golf ball begins to break.

Watch Your Toes When Golf Putting

Golf PuttingIt might sound funny, but golf putting has a lot to do with your toes! Toe alignment has a direct impact golf putting. When setting up for a shot you must align the toes parallel to your target line.

It is very important to note that the toes must always be in alignment with the target line – not the cup! Depending on the green, your target line is not always going to be a straight line to the cup. If you want the ball to follow the targeted line that you have chosen, you must align your toes to it.

What is the Correct Golf Putting Posture?

Golf PuttingThe success of a golfer depends a lot on his or her posture. Posture is no less important when golf putting than it is during any other part of the game. Correct posture allows the body to move unimpeded through the needed range of motion. When Golf Putting it is important to keep the knees bent slightly to reduce strain on the back.

The feet should be placed shoulder with apart. Bend at the waist when grasping the putter to allow the arms to swing like pendulums. Center the body so that the eyes are directly over the ball.

Don’t Break the Leading Wrist When Golf Putting!

Golf PuttingOf all of the mistakes that can be made when golf putting, allowing the leading wrist to break after striking the golf ball is one of the most common. When the lead wrist breaks, or bends, the head of the putter will twist, and this will cause the ball to veer off course.

One way to fix this golf putting problem is with the cross-handed putter grip. In the cross-handed grip, the forward hand grips the shaft of the putter farther down than the other hand. This repositioning of the hands helps keep the lead wrist straight.

Golf Putting Made Easy With Proper Golf Putting Grip

Golf Putting Is An Important Part Of Any Golfer’s Game

Golf Putting
Many golf games have been won and lost on the green. Golf Putting is a vital skill that must be honed in every golfer’s game if they wish to progress to the next level.  Golf enthusiasts spend hours on end at the driving range trying to improve their swing in the hopes of adding extra yards to their drives.

That is a great goal that all those who play golf should strive to reach.  It is a goal, however, that must be attained without neglecting the other aspects of the game.  It will do no good to land on the green with a chance to double birdie on the hole if your short game is lacking.  Good Golf Putting skills are vital if you want to finish your golf game under par.

Golf Putting Is An Area That Many Golf Players Struggle With

It is alright if you struggle with Golf Putting, many who play golf do.  Hitting the golf ball too hard or too soft are common errors.  As well as poor aiming due to a lack of understanding how the subtle gradients in the green will affect a shot.

Don’t lose heart though, just because you currently struggle with Golf Putting doesn’t mean that you have to struggle with it forever!  There are many techniques that you can use to improve your short game.  There is a world of golf information out there for you to sift through.  No matter what any book, magazine, or golf buddy tells you, there is absolutely no substitute for practice.  Take every opportunity you have to practice making difficult shots.

Most importantly, be sure not to get frustrated with yourself on the golf course.  If you miss a putt, don’t get angry at yourself.  Try to figure out why your ball didn’t go in the hole.  Treat every missed putt as a learning experience.  Become a detective and take the time to understand why your golf ball reacted to the green the way it did.  Your short game will improve by leaps and bounds if you take this approach.

Golf Putting Will Greatly Improve With A Proper Grip Of The Golf Club

Golf Putting
There are many things to be considered as you plan your shot; the distance to the cup, the contours of the green, the strength needed to successfully sink the golf ball, etc.  One of the most important aspects of Golf Putting is that of your grip on the club.  It might be surprising, but many golfers are so preoccupied with all of the other features of Golf Putting that they forget all about their grip.

If your Golf Putting grip is incorrect, all of the “green reading” in the world won’t help you sink your golf ball.  Consistency is the main ingredient for success when talking about a golf grip.  Find a Golf Putting grip that works for you and use it every time you approach the golf ball!
