Some Putting Q&A to Start Your Day!

Question by Money: “El Dorado” golf putter – anyone ever heard any solid info about them?
I was recently given what appears to be an old, heavy used “El Dorado” golf putter. I have never heard of this and was wondering if anyone knew any solid details about it. Looking to get a new putter anyway, just curious about this one. It does come with a Reg. # if anyone needs that in the future. Thanks in advance.

Probably not, but from what I gather, El Dorado is a boutique putter brand… one I’ve never heard of. I had to scour the ‘Net for information, and it was limited at that. There are PLENTY of these types, though: MannKrafted and Gnead are a couple that come to mind. You might’ve heard of Scotty Cameron. It’s the easiest (“easiest” being a relative term) club type to try to get into the business with. Very few make it in a Scotty Cameron sense; most don’t, or do just enough to break even.

If the head’s integrity is sound and you like it… game it. Get a new grip- one that feels good and is the right size. Reshaft it if you please, but unless it’s rusted and/or pitted, that isn’t a priority.

Leaving for California tomorrow from Dallas want to bring a golf putter. Was wondering they will let me carry it on board?

Paul, what with all the security scares and searching, if they take away a nail clipper why not a putter. I think they would think it was a weapon. Send it by FedEx express and it will get there waiting for you.

Our Answer:

In our experience airlines make provisions for sports equipment, some charge, and others don’t. Call the airline or check their website to find out their Ts&Cs for golf equipment. It’s almost certain though, that you will have to check it into the hold. They’re not going to let you on the plane with it! You could always hire a putter at your destination if you’re wanting to practice your putting.
